The Tamil Nadu government will constitute special courts in 14 districts exclusively for the trial of cases filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, Law Minister S. Regupathy announced in the Assembly on Friday (April 5, 2025).
The Special Courts, in the cadre of a District Judge, will be set up in the 14 districts in three phases, he said. The districts are: Chennai, Erode, Kallakurichi, Tiruchi, Tiruppur, Krishnagiri, Ranipet, Tirupathur, Mayiladuthurai, Kancheepuram, Namakkal, Tiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, and the Nilgiris.
The Minister also announced that all textbooks pertaining to law would be translated into Tamil for the benefit of students. The State government would introduce a faculty development programme for the teaching staff in State-run law colleges as well as a student exchange programme with national and international law universities.
The Minister added the State government would set up an e-library in the Law Department’s library at a cost of ₹31 lakh. It would set up e-libraries in all State-run law colleges in Tamil Nadu, he said.
