Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, celebrated for films like Birdman and The Revenant, has reportedly offered Indian filmmaker-actor Anurag Kashyap a role in his upcoming Hollywood project. This surprising development came to light during the Galatta Nakshatra Awards in Chennai, where Maharaja director Nithilan Swaminathan revealed the news.

Speaking at the event, Swaminathan shared that Iñárritu was deeply impressed by Kashyap’s performance in the Tamil blockbuster Maharaja. “I am a huge fan of Anurag sir. Recently, I went to Mumbai for his daughter’s wedding, and he told me Iñárritu offered him a role after watching Maharaja. When I heard it, I didn’t know how to react. I felt happy. I love him,” Swaminathan said.

While Kashyap has yet to confirm whether he has accepted the role, the offer has only added to more recognition for Maharaja, which has already garnered critical and commercial acclaim. The action thriller, starring Vijay Sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap, and Sachana Nimidass, became a global sensation, breaking records on Netflix and earning over ₹100 crore at the Chinese box office.

Meanwhile, Iñárritu is gearing up for his next English-language film, set to star Hollywood icon Tom Cruise. Scheduled for release on October 2, 2026, the film explores the story of a powerful man on a frantic mission to save humanity from disaster.
