President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday reiterated his stand of preventing transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports, saying that he will sign an order on his first day to “keep men out”.
Trump made these comments while addressing a rally in Washington a day ahead of his swearing-in ceremony, reported news agency Reuters.
Time and again, Trump has vowed to ban transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports.
Last month, Trump, addressing a crowd in Arizona, said that once he assumes office, he will make an “official policy” to identify only two genders, male and female.
“With the stroke of my pen on day one, we’re going to stop the transgender lunacy,” Trump said in Arizona, adding, “I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, get transgender out of the military and out of our elementary schools and middle schools and high schools.”
On January 14, the US House of Representatives passed a bill, known as “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.” The Act stops federal funding to those schools which allow the participation of transgender students in women’s sports.
Passing the bill in the House, the Republicans argued that the bill will promote fairness and ensure safety for women students as transgender athletes are biologically superior.
