Ukraine- Russia War: Despite facing continuous attacks from Russia, Ukraine’s morale has not been dampened. It is ready to attack deeper into Russia. For this, it is seeking permission from America to use weapons.
Kiev. Ukraine’s spirits are high despite Russia’s continuous attacks. Representatives of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met senior US officials in Washington on Saturday. In this, they increased pressure on the US to allow Kiev to attack military bases by entering further into Russian territory. The US has given more than $50 billion in military aid to Ukraine since 2022. But it has limited the use of its weapons to Ukrainian soil and cross-border operations only for its own defense. Zelensky said that guided aerial bombs killed six people and injured 97 in Kharkiv on Friday. On Saturday, Russia carried out more attacks with guided bombs. Ukraine clearly says that such attacks can only be avoided by attacking Russian military airfields, their bases and Russian logistics depots. In his nightly video address, Zelensky said that ‘we talk about this every day with our allies. We present arguments to persuade them. He said that clearing the Ukrainian sky of Russian guided aerial bombs would be a big step towards ending Russia’s aggression and forcing it to move towards a just peace.
US approval needed for attacks in Russia
Appealing to the US, Britain, France and Germany, Zelensky said, “We need capabilities to truly and fully defend Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. We need long-range capabilities and permissions to use your long-range shells and missiles.” Without giving further details, he said that his representatives have given all the necessary information to Ukraine’s partners. It is worth noting that Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustam Umarov was in Washington with a delegation to meet US officials and experts on Friday and Saturday.
Zelensky will visit the US next month
Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustam Umarov said in an interview aired on CNN that ‘Kiev was showing that Russian airports used to attack Ukrainian cities were well within its borders.’ Umarov said that we have told what kind of capabilities we need to protect civilians from Russian terror, so I hope we will be heard.’ While Zelensky is expected to make a similar argument in private next month. When he will present a plan to win the war to President Joe Biden in the Oval Office and attend the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
