Pakistan recorded their lowest T20I total against New Zealand in the first game of the five-match T20I series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. On Sunday, March 16, Salman Ali Agha’s men were bowled out for 91 in 18.4 overs after being asked to bat first.

It was also the first time Pakistan were bowled out for a score of under 100 against the Kiwis in the history of T20Is. Their previous lowest score against the Black Caps was 101 back in January 2016 at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

Duffy, Jamieson rattle Pakistan

Pakistan got off to a horrendous start after Mohammad Haris and debutant Hasan Nawaz failed to open their accounts. They slumped further as Irfan Khan and Shadab Khan perished to leave the visitors reeling at 11 for four in 4.4 overs. Kyle Jamieson breathed fire and got the wickets of Haris, Irfan and Shadab to finish with figures of 4-1-8-3.

After the early wickets, skipper Salman Ali Agha and Khushdil Shah restored sanity to proceedings with a partnership of 46 runs for the fifth wicket. At the half-way mark, Pakistan found themselves at 42 for four with the need to accelerate big time in the death overs.

Salman looked good in his 18-run knock off 20 balls before leg-spinner Ish Sodhi accounted for his wicket. Khushdil, on the other hand, was the standout batter for Pakistan after scoring 32 runs off 30 balls, laced with three sixes.

Sodhi also got the wicket of Abdul Samad, one of the other debutants to finish with figures of 4-0-27-2. Fast bowler Jacob Duffy also bowled brilliantly after finishing with figures of 3.4-0-14-4.
