Participants in the CISF Coastal Cyclathon covering 6,553 km will enter Mumbai after covering half the distance on March 20. The event will involve cultural programmes to raise awareness about the importance of coastal security.

The event will take place at Gateway of Mumbai, according to a statement from the CISF.

There are 26 such events and 118 interactions with local communities along the way of the cycling circuit. More than 1,000 are participating in the event and about 10 lakh people have participated in the event physically.

“This historic ride is raising awareness amongst the local population about the importance of coastal security and appealing to the fisherman communities to actively support the law enforcement agencies in keeping a vigil over potential threats like smuggling of drugs, weapons and explosives through the sea. The CISF personnel are conducting public interaction events to foster better coordination between local communities and security agencies, creating a more robust security network,” the statement read.

Celebrities including actors and cricketers have extended their support for the event.
