Colour discrimination still exists: Chief Secretary-OxBig News Network

Chief Secretary Sharada Muraleedharan has said that discrimination based on colour in the State was more than one could imagine and that there were parents who think the worst if their offsprings turned out to be dark-skinned.

Taking part in a session on ’ Social justicde in tribal communities’ at ‘Nerdhi 2025’, the National Tribal Literature Festival that began on KIRTADS campus in Kozhikode on Thursday, she criticised people who repeatedly reminded her of the discriminations she faced, following her recent social media post highlighting the issue.

The three-day literature festival was inaugurated by Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes O.R. Kelu on Thursday while MLA Thottathil Raveendran presided over the event.

Tribal writers from various languages in the country and experts on various issues faced by the tribal communities are taking part in the event. Besides literature, the festival features traditional tribal cuisine, handicrafts and cultural programmes.

Union Minister of State for Fisheries George Kurien and Kozhikode MP M.K .Raghavan are expected to take part in the valedictory ceremony on Saturday.
