It’s Dewald Brevis’ fault, not the umpire’s: Sehwag’s blunt take on DRS controversy-OxBig News Network

Former India cricketer turned commentator Virender Sehwag has blamed Dewald Brevis for his controversial dismissal against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Brevis was given out lbw on the field and wasn’t allowed to take the DRS under some confusing circumstances and had to walk back to the pavilion for a golden duck.

It was later revealed that Bravis and Ravindra Jadeja wasted their allotted 15 seconds to take the review by running between the wickets. Hence, the duo failed to see the umpires’ signal and ran out of time to review the decision. Virender Sehwag shared his views on the controversy and said it was Brevis’ mistake not to go for the review and criticised him for running aimlessly despite being given out.

“Only Brevis can tell us why he didn’t take the review in time. Why was he so late? It’s Brevis’ fault, not the umpire’s. The timer is shown on the big screen. He ran for a single and then he went for the second. Don’t you know that the umpire has given you out?” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

“Okay, I understand it was a wrong decision. It was a blunder, it was missing the stump. The DRS is there to get rid of the howlers. As soon as the umpire gave his decision, the timer of 15 seconds started at the ground. It’s okay, we didn’t get to see that on the screen. Why did he take so much time?” he added.

Later, it was revealed that the ball would’ve gone on to miss the stumps, had Brevis opted for the review. Courtesy of his dismissal, RCB managed to make a comeback in the game by taking two wickets in as many deliveries as Lungi Ngidi dismissed a well-set Ayush Mhatre for 94 (48).

Following the two dismissals, RCB managed to shift the momentum and eventually won the match by two runs to climb to the top of the points table.
