The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a deputy general manager (DGM) of Oil India Limited (OIL), posted in Duliajan, Assam, along with an executive from a private firm, in connection with an alleged Rs 7 lakh bribery case, the agency said on Monday.
According to CBI officials, Prayas Chakravorty, the OIL DGM, allegedly demanded a bribe from Jyoti Kumar Singh, DGM of Noida-based United Drilling Tools Limited, in exchange for awarding a company contract.
Both individuals were presented before a CBI special court in Ghaziabad on Monday.
“It was further alleged that Chakravorty also demanded 70g of gold ornaments for himself and other unidentified officials, in return for awarding the contract,” the CBI official stated. When Singh said he couldn’t arrange the gold, he allegedly offered to pay in cash.
The agency claimed thar United Drilling Tools’ Managing Director, Kunal Gupta—also named in the FIR—arranged for Rs 7 lakh to be delivered to Chakravorty.
He is said to have used part of the bribe to purchase gold coins worth over Rs 3.7 lakh from a Noida shop and took the remaining cash home.
