Earthquake alert: 6.1-magnitude quake shakes southern Greek islands

An undersea 6.1-magnitude earthquake scale struck off theGreek islands of Crete early Thursday (May 22, 2025). and was felt throughout the Aegean Sea, however there have been no rapid reviews of accidents or important injury.

The quake occurred some 55 km north of the island, in accordance with the Geodynamics Institute of Athens at a depth of 37 kilometres beneath the seabed.

Regional authorities official Giorgos Tsapakos informed state-run tv that “there are no reports of injuries or any serious damage” following preliminary assessments of the affected areas.

The shock was felt extensively throughout islands all through the Aegean Sea.

Earthquake and Planning Protection Organisation director Efthymios Lekkas famous that deeper earthquakes sometimes trigger much less floor injury.
