The Election Commission (EC) has began an investigation right into a grievance alleging that the spouse of BJP’s West Bengal president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar possesses two voter id playing cards, a senior official stated on Friday (May 23, 2025).
Initial probe discovered that the Minister’s spouse, Koel Majumdar, holds two voter ID playing cards with completely different EPIC numbers — one registered in Balurghat and one other in Jalpaiguri.
While one card was issued below her maiden identify, Koel Chowdhury, the second was created after her marriage below the identify Koel Majumdar.
“This might have been averted had she submitted Form 18. It is the duty of the cardholder to inform the EC of any adjustments. In this case, the fee was not knowledgeable,” the official stated.
He additional defined {that a} new voter card was issued in Balurghat after she submitted Form 6.

State’s Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal has requested the district magistrates of Jalpaiguri and Dakshin Dinajpur to file a report on the matter as rapidly as attainable, EC sources stated.
