Apple is all set to unveil the latest versions of its operating systems for iPhones, iPads, Macs and more at the WWDC 2025 conference today. Reports suggest that this year’s updates may include a significant shift in naming conventions, with the company expected to move from the current digit format to a simplified scheme—turning the iPhone software into iOS 26, and similarly iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and so on.

Another major change anticipated this year is a redesign of the user interface across all Apple platforms, taking cues from the UI of the Vision Pro headset.

Apple’s new UI changes to set the stage for a new device

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new interface elements will be called Liquid Glass and will feature glossy, see-through visuals that resemble glass surfaces. The redesign is part of Apple’s broader effort to unify the visual experience across its devices.

The changes will introduce transparency and reflective effects across toolbars, in-app interfaces and system controls, creating a more cohesive and modern look throughout the Apple ecosystem.

Gurman further reports that the Liquid Glass interface is intended to lay the groundwork for future hardware—particularly a redesigned iPhone in 2027, which will mark the 20-year anniversary of the product.

Internally dubbed “Glasswing,” the 2027 iPhone is expected to build upon the glass-inspired theme. The device will reportedly feature curved glass sides that wrap around the entire phone, including the edges. It is also said to have ultra-slim bezels and no visible cutout for the front camera or sensors.

Notably, the last major UI overhaul for iPhones came in 2013 under design chief Jony Ive, when Apple moved away from skeuomorphic elements in favour of a cleaner approach known as “flat design.” That redesign prioritised colour, transparency and simplified digital interfaces, setting the tone for Apple’s modern software aesthetic.
