A British Airways flight from Chennai to London returned to Chennai airport briefly after departure.

The flight that departed around 6 a.m. from the Chennai airport flew for a while and returned to the airport at 8.30 a.m. There were nearly 200 passengers on board the aircraft and they were informed that ‘due to airspace tensions over Middle East’, the flight is getting back to Chennai.

Sources in Airports Authority of India (AAI) said the flight returned due to ‘airspace closure in Iran’. After refueling, the aircraft is expected to depart from the airport shortly, sources said.

The sources added that the British Airways flight to London left Chennai airport at about 11.30 am..
