Who was Ryan Luis Mosqueda? Gunman shot dead in McAllen Federal attack

A 27-year-old man named Ryan Luis Mosqueda was killed after opening fire at a US Border Patrol station near McAllen, Texas, early Monday morning.

Mosqueda, who had been reported missing from Weslaco, arrived at the station around 6 a.m. heavily armed and wearing tactical gear, according to officials.

ATTACK ON FEDERAL FACILITY

The McAllen Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Mosqueda fired shots at the building and its personnel. Border Patrol agents and local law enforcement quickly responded and fatally shot the attacker.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez stated that Mosqueda arrived in the city in a vehicle with Michigan license plates. His last known address was also in Michigan. “About an hour or so after being reported missing, he showed up at the federal building and opened fire on agents,” said Rodriguez.

One police officer was shot in the knee and is reported to be in stable condition. Two other officers and a Border Patrol employee sustained injuries during the incident. Authorities said additional firearms and ammunition were found in Mosqueda’s car. His motive remains unknown.

AIRPORT LOCKDOWN AND FLIGHT DELAY

The incident occurred near McAllen International Airport, prompting a temporary lockdown. Flights were halted, and passengers were not allowed to enter the terminal or parking areas until authorities deemed it safe. The City of McAllen advised travelers to contact their airlines for updates.

“Access will be restricted until it is safe to reopen,” officials said in a public alert.

FEDERAL INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

The FBI is leading the investigation with support from the Department of Homeland Security. DHS stated, “An individual opened fire at the front entrance of the US Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen. Border Patrol agents and local police mitigated the threat. The investigation continues.”
