Iran’s president calls for regional unity against Israel’s ‘destructive’ agenda

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday issued a warning against what he described as Israel’s “destructive” role in the Middle East, urging regional countries to unite in resisting its divisive agenda.

In a meeting with Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari in Tehran, Pezeshkian said, “The Zionist regime is the arrogant system’s project to undermine, occupy, and plunder the resources of the regional countries and disintegrate the region.”

“We must stand united in the face of such a common enemy, support each other and vehemently avoid division and duality,” he emphasised.

The President praised the ties between Iran and Iraq, saying their relationship is built on deep religious and cultural bonds. He reaffirmed Iran’s would make further efforts to reinforce unity and coherence amongst Muslim nations.

He expressed Iran’s readiness to bolster cooperation with Iraq in all fields.

The Iraqi interior minister also congratulated the Iranian people for what he described as their “victorious resistance” during a 12-day standoff with Israel. Al-Shammari also noted Iraq’s preparations to host millions of pilgrims for the upcoming Arba’een commemorations, marking 40 days after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Mohammad.

This comes amid reports that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was slightly injured during an Israeli airstrike in June, according to Iran’s state-linked Fars news agency. The report says that on June 16, six bombs targeted a hidden underground facility in Tehran, where Pezeshkian was attending a high-level emergency meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
