Delhi captain Ayush Badoni delivered a career-defining performance in the Ranji Trophy against Jharkhand, as he scored his maiden double century. His unbeaten 205, featuring 16 fours and 10 sixes, was crucial in securing a first-innings lead and earning Delhi three valuable points. This win keeps Delhi in the hunt for a quarter-final berth, as they currently sit third in Group D with 14 points. In order to secure a quarter-final spot, Delhi need to win their remaining two matches against Saurashtra and Railways in January.

Badoni, hailed for his potential since his junior cricket days, has faced challenges translating talent into consistent runs. However, working with Lucknow Super Giants coach Justin Langer at WACA in 2023 seems to have paid dividends. The youngster credited Langer and acknowledged the LSG coach had put in him. “Justin Langer taught me a lot about aggression—how to control it and when to display it. He also helped refine my grip,” Badoni said, adding that the WACA stint gave him valuable exposure to bouncy wickets.

Ayush Badoni hits maiden double ton

On reaching his double century, Badoni celebrated with a roar and fist pump, a symbol of his growth and determination. He credited teammate Sumit Mathur (43) and senior player Shivam Sharma (33) for providing crucial support during his innings. Badoni’s shift back to his preferred No. 4 position also played a key role. “I’ve scored two hundreds at No. 4 before, so I wanted to bat there again,” he noted.

Beyond batting, Badoni is evolving as an all-rounder. He is Delhi’s top wicket-taker this season and credits coach Sarandeep Singh for refining his off-breaks. “After the last IPL, I focused on developing my bowling. Sarandeep sir’s advice on thumb positioning has been invaluable,” he shared.

Badoni retained by LSG

Badoni’s retention by LSG ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction has further boosted his confidence. “Staying with LSG for three years cleared my mind of auction pressures, allowing me to play freely,” he concluded. His stellar form is a promising sign for both Delhi and his future in Indian cricket.
