Abhishek Chaubey showers praise on Kareena Kapoor for her dedication in ‘Udta Punjab’: ‘She wouldn’t even wear makeup’

Abhishek Chaubey recently reflected on his unique experiences working with Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh. Known for prioritising authentic performances over appearance, Chaubey shared anecdotes that showcased the actors’ commitment to their craft.
In a recent interview with Mashable India, the director discussed how casting for Udta Punjab required flexibility and a focus on talent. The director cited Diljit Dosanjh’s role as Sartaj Singh, originally envisioned as a towering Punjabi man with a heavy voice. Despite not fitting this physical archetype, Diljit was cast because of his exceptional acting skills and authenticity as a Sardar.
Abhishek also spoke highly of Kareena, revealing her dedication to the project. Reflecting on a behind-the-scenes moment, he noted how Kareena appeared aloof but was deeply attentive to his direction. He praised her ability to adapt to various roles, describing her as a “true blue industry kid” with an instinctive understanding of what each film and performance demands. Her ability to seamlessly transition between genres, whether in a David Dhawan comedy or a Govind Nihalani drama, exemplifies her versatility.
One of the standout observations the filmmaker shared was the work ethic of both Kareena and Diljit. Unlike most actors who retreat to their vanity vans or take a break between shots, the two stars remained on set, closely following the director’s lead. Chaubey noted that Kareena, despite her superstar status, often stood by his side during shoots in remote village locations. Diljit exhibited a similar dedication, refusing to sit even when urged to relax.
