Tabla Maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain left for his heavenly abode on December 15 in the US. The musician was admitted to the hospital for a serious ailment.
Actor-singer Durga Jasraj, who had a conversation with his wife told ETimes. She said, “I just spoke to Zakir Bhai’s wife. She said the reason for his ailment is fibrosis in his lungs, and he’s extremely weak. We have to just pray for his journey back to where he came from.”
Elaborating further, she added, “I just want to say that what he’s given us is immeasurable and intangible, a part of our lives in a way that just the way the air and water are as critical and important for our survival. His music, his being as a human being, his love, his blessings are as critical for this. I think all the musicians across the world and the planet Earth, I think he has done so much good through his music.”
“Let’s pray for everything that he wishes for henceforth, and for the family, students, and, of course, admirers across the world,” she said.
Durga confirmed by saying, “The official statement from the family is still awaited.”
Zakir Hussain, renowned for his unmatched tabla skills, has composed and performed for numerous acclaimed Indian and international films. Nearly four decades ago, he relocated to San Francisco with his family, where he has since made remarkable contributions to the global music scene.
