After Pope Trump, White House depicts President as Jedi to celebrate Star Wars Day

The White House was at it again on Sunday, posting yet another AI-generated image of President Donald Trump – this time as a muscular Jedi – to mark Star Wars Day, celebrated every year on May 4. But what was meant to be a cheeky political dig quickly spiralled into mockery, as sharp-eyed fans were quick to point out a glaring detail: Trump was wielding a red lightsabre, the weapon traditionally used by villains in the Star Wars universe.

The image, shared on social media, showed Trump in flowing Jedi robes, flanked by bald eagles and American flags, with exaggerated biceps and a red lightsabre in hand. It was accompanied by a caption that read, “Happy May the 4th to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting so hard to bring Sith Lords, Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, & well-known MS-13 Gang Members, back into our Galaxy. You’re not the Rebellion—you’re the Empire. May the 4th be with you.”

Though the post framed Trump as a patriotic force against political enemies likened to Star Wars villains, the symbolism fell flat. In the Star Wars universe, red sabres are almost exclusively wielded by Sith Lords – the very ’empire’ the post claimed to oppose – including antagonists like Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. Jedi, the saga’s heroes, are typically armed with blue or green sabres.

Fans and critics alike took to social media to highlight the irony, with many noting that instead of portraying Trump as a Jedi, the image inadvertently cast him as a Sith Lord – the very type of character the caption denounced.

This incident followed closely on the heels of another controversial AI post by the White House just a day earlier, which showed Trump dressed as the Pope. That image sparked backlash, especially as it came only days after the death of Pope Francis on April 21, with several taking to social media to accuse the administration of mockery and insensitivity.
