Arjun Kapoor lauds Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’, says ‘Main toh paagal ho gaya tha dekhke’ about Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Arjun Reddy’ | Hindi Movie News

Arjun Kapoor who was seen as a baddie in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Singham Again’ and got immense accolades for it, has now opened up at length about Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s ‘Animal’. He pointed out details about the film, thus explaining how Vanga has such a unique voice. Apart from ‘Animal’, Arjun admitted to also loving ‘Arjun Reddy‘ which was later remade into ‘Kabir Singh’.
The ‘Ishaqzaade’ actor opened up in a chat with Chalchitra Talks, “I was watching Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s interview the other day. He has a language. He has a cutting pattern. He has an audio cutting pattern, a visual cutting pattern, a framing pattern. So I don’t believe that there is no language at all. I am talking about the mainstream cinema,” said Arjun. He further mentioned that he always had this issue in Hindi films that men fighting the hero would not have any personality. However, he pointed out that in Animal, Vanga used masks to give them a more menacing presence. “What actually he did with those masks is, that he made them more menacing.”
Highlighting the aspects of the movie which he loved, Arjun said, “I feel Bobby Deol’s introduction, the way he cuts from Ranbir, lighting a cigarette and then suddenly you see a man sitting. That shouldn’t cut. That split screen shouldn’t…it’s not a clean cut. But the sound makes it better. In the middle of that, there’s purity of performance also some places. Like when Anil chachu sees Ranbir come back for the first time, after ages. He (Vanga) has held the performance as a director, he has allowed the edit to be slightly more loose so you can feel Anil Kapoor a little bit more when he is longing for his son. Just very well-crafted film.”
The actor then expressed his love for ‘Arjun Reddy’. “Main toh paagal ho gaya tha dekhke. Akele dekhi thi maine. Aur main chair pe khade hoke clap kar raha tha. Pagal ho gaya tha main dekhkar ki ye dimaag kya hai, ye aadmi kaha se sochke laata hai aur ye performances nikali kaise aur ye writing kya hai? (I went crazy after watching it. I watched it alone. And I was standing on the chair clapping. I had gone mad watching it-like, what kind of mind is this, where does this man even come up with these ideas from, and how did he pull off such performances, and this writing- what even is this?),” he said.
He said that Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s dialogue writing is also very good. “Because he is to the point. It is a very interesting thing that a director writes dialogues jahaa pe aap seedhi baat kar rahe ho. The characters have an emotional thrust.”
