Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 director Anees Bazmee explains why, unlike the first part, he chose not to pursue a psychological thriller: ‘Shifting the genre would be cheating’ | Hindi Movie News

The much-anticipated film ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ has already generated a lot of conversation on social media. Starring Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, and Kartik Aaryan, the movie is the third installment in the ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ series. The film’s director Anees Bazmee acknowledged in a recent interview that the original ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ was excellent. He continued by saying that Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar have done excellent work on it.He therefore decided to make the next two parts more of a horror-comedy than a psychological thriller, in contrast to the first one.
During a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Anees Bazmee talked about his decision-making process for ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ and 3. A prominent query that confused all fans was why the director chose to make a horror comedy rather than a psychological thriller, as was the case with the first part, which introduced a new genre to India and won over many fans.
The director responded by explaining that, for a special reason, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ also follows the same horror-comedy formula as the second movie. He described how Priyadarshan and Akshay’s work established a high bar and how the first film, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, was a psychological thriller. He thought their work was great and didn’t want to touch it.
He shared, “The first film was made beautifully by Priayadarshan ji and Akshay had done amazing work there. So, I did not want to go the psychological thriller route because I wanted it to be different.” Additionally, as he worked on the script, he came to understand that the primary themes they wished to address in the movie had more to do with horror, so they changed the genre.
The filmmaker said, “When we started working on the script, the basic beats were more horror than thriller. So, I felt that shifting the genre back to psychological thriller would be cheating with the script.”
‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ is scheduled to hit the theaters on November 01, 2024. It will clash with Rohit Shetty’s multi-starrer ‘Singham Again’ at the box office.
