Blackpink N-word controversy: YG Leaker exposes allegations of racism and sexism in K-Pop |

K-pop group Blackpink is facing strong criticism after videos of them using the N-word surfaced online. The clips, showing members Rose, Jennie, and Lisa saying the slur during auditions before their debut, quickly went viral on X, causing a major reaction.
Controversy Sparked by Former YG Employee
Over the past weekend, the K-pop industry was rocked by a major controversy when a person, believed to be a former YG Entertainment employee, threatened to reveal sensitive information about several major agencies.
An anonymous user, known as “YG Leaker,” created a new Discord channel and shared their reason for taking action. In their opening message, they explained that their anger stemmed from being fired, and they held deep resentment toward the company. They also claimed the workplace was filled with harassment, racial discrimination, and gender bias, sparking concern and curiosity among those following the discussions.
Allegations Extend Beyond YG Entertainment
The self-styled “YG Leaker” also claimed to have a large amount of data, reportedly several terabytes, that could back serious accusations against top entertainment companies. While the focus was on YG Entertainment, the individual extended their allegations to include major industry players like SM Entertainment, HYBE Labels, Cube Entertainment, RBW, Blockberry Creative, JYP Entertainment, WM Entertainment, and Starship Entertainment.
Earlier, the leaker, known as Gurumi, caused a stir by releasing photos of a romantic date between Blackpink’s Jennie and BTS’ V.
Skepticism from K-pop Fans
Despite the seriousness of these claims, many K-pop fans remain skeptical. Some have dismissed the leaks, comparing them to the exaggerated narratives often seen on social media, especially within K-pop fan communities. Critics believe these threats resemble the usual patterns seen in fan-driven discussions on platforms like Twitter.
Amid the ongoing online discussions, one claim about BLACKPINK has gained significant attention and is quickly spreading across social media. As debates grow, the truth behind the insider’s allegations remains unclear, leaving the K-pop community in suspense as they await more updates on this developing story.
Cultural Sensitivity Debate Sparks Online Conversations
The leaked clips have ignited a conversation about cultural insensitivity among K-pop idols and the way Korean entertainment companies appropriate the artistic influences of Black people and other people of color without giving proper recognition.
Some argued that, being Korean and Thai, the members may not have fully understood the history and cultural significance of the word. However, others pointed out that two of the members were fluent in English, with Rose growing up in New Zealand. One user commented, “Wasn’t two of them bilingual and able to speak and understand English? 3/4 took the name BLACKPINK too seriously…”
“This is why I can never be a K-pop girlie. They all hate Black people so much yet they’re so inspired by our culture…” wrote another.
On the work front, Blackpink is gearing up for their 2025 world tour.
