NEW DELHI: Amid US President Donald Trump’s tariff threats, India is engaging with the US to find ways of increasing trade and discussing the concerns of both the partners. “We are working on increasing the trade between the two countries from current $200 billion to over $500 billion. All measures required to bolster trade ties will be discussed with the US bilaterally,” commerce secretary Sunil Barthwal said on Monday.
“Positive talks continue and we are discussing all issues. We are proactively engaged with them. Their concerns, our concerns, and the mutual concerns, all are being addressed,” he added. EEPC India chairman Pankaj Chadha said, “The big shift in US trade policy threatens to negatively impact global trade.” Barthwal said, “Govt is weighing both opportunities and challenges emerging from US tariffs. We are conducting stakeholder consultations.”
