Manmohan Singh passes away: Anand Mahindra condoles demise of ex-PM who ‘loved the nation’ | Company Business News-OxBig News Network

Anand Mahindra, Chairperson of Mahindra and Mahindra group, took to X to condole the death of India’s ex-PM Manmohan Singh. Manmohan Singh, who also served as India’s finance minister, ‘loved the nation’, stated Anand Mahindra.

Manmohan Singh breathed his last at AIIMS New Delhi, on Thursday, December 26.

“ Farewell Dr. Manmohan Singh. You loved this nation. And your service to it will long be remembered. Om Shanti,” Anand Mahindra posted on X, along with a folded hands emoticon, and Manmohan Singh’s photo.

Manmohan Singh ‘could not be revived’

AIIMS New Delhi released a statement on Thursday, stating that Manmohan Singh ‘could not be revived’ despite all attempts, and was declared dead at 9:51 pm. The ex-PM, who was being treated for age-related illnesses“had sudden loss of consciousness at home on 26th December 2024″. The measures to revive him started at home, before he was brought to the hospital.

According to his office, Manmohan Singh was facing “extreme breathlessness”.

Manmohan Singh – India’s ex finance minister

Manmohan Singh was one of the two governors of Reserve Bank of India, who went on to become the finance minister. The other governor was C.D Deshmukh.

Manmohan Singh was also one of the only four top level bureaucrats who later went on to become the finance minister. H.M Patel, C.D Deshmukh and Yashwant Sinha were the other three.

From his position as a finance minister, Manmohan Singh went on to become the Prime Minister. During the UPA-I rule in 2004, the average annual GDP growth rate under Manmohan Singh was 8.3 per cent, a figure that had never been reached in any prior five-year period.

Manmohan Singh began his journey with the Government of India after he was appointed the Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Commerce in 1971. In 1972, he was promoted to Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance.
