A 27-year-old carpenter was killed after being hit by Coimbatore – MGR Chennai Central Intercity Express at Arakkonam railway station near Ranipet on Saturday when he tried to board the train to check his missing luggage.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) said the deceased person was identified as K. Pradeep, a resident of Ambur town in Tirupattur. He was working as a carpenter in the town for many years.
Initial inquiry revealed that along with his mother and relatives, Pradeep was on his way to attend a family function in Tiruvallur. They boarded the express train at Ambur railway station and got down at Arakkonam when Pradeep found that one of the bags was missing. They got down at Arakkonam railway station to board a suburban train to Tiruvallur.
As the express train started to move, he tried to get into it to check his missing bag but slipped and fell on the track. He was hit by an incoming train. He died on the spot. Later, GRP shifted the body to Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore for postmortem. A case was registered. A probe is underway.
