CBI brings back 3 fugitives from UAE-OxBig News Network

The CBI has brought back three fugitive criminals — one who had raped a minor girl in Kerala, another who was involved in a cheating and forgery case in Gujarat and the third an extortionist — from UAE to face the Indian law for their crimes.

The two accused — identified as Suhail Basheer, wanted by the Kerala Police, and Tofik Najir Khan, wanted by the Gujarat Police — arrived in India on April 2. The third accused, Aaditya Jain, an associate of a transnational crime syndicate, was brought back on April 4.

A senior CBI officer said the accused Basheer was wanted by Kerala Police in a case registered at Muvattupuzha police station, Ernakulam rural district, on the allegations of rape of a minor girl under the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.

“He was absconding since the registration of the case against him. The CBI got the Red Notice published through Interpol in this case in December 2024 on the request of Kerala Police,” the officer said.

He said that Basheer was geo-located in UAE through close follow up by CBI through Interpol. “An escort team of Kerala Police returned with the fugitive criminal from UAE at Cochin International Airport,” the officer said.

In the second case, the International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) of CBI coordinated with NCB-Abu Dhabi in bringing back the Red Notice subject Tofik Najir Khan from UAE.

“Khan was wanted by the Gujarat Police in a criminal case registered at Bavlu police station, Mehsana district, for the offences of criminal conspiracy for forgery and cheating,” the official said. A Red Corner Notice was published through Interpol on February 25 on the request of the Gujarat Police following which he was tracked down in UAE and subsequently brought back to India.

The third accused, Aaditya Jain, was wanted by the Rajasthan Police in multiple criminal cases, including a case registered at Kuchaman City police station, Deedwana district, on the allegations of making extortion calls to wealthy businessmen through Whatsapp/Signal VOIP calls.
