Dhinakaran against bio medical waste treatment unit in Manamadurai-OxBig News Network

AMMK founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Sunday urged the Central and Tamil Nadu governments to stop the establishment of a bio medical waste treatment unit at Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, citing public opinion against the project over concerns on public health.

Mr. Dhinakaran, in a social media post, urged authorities to withdraw the permission granted to the unit, which was being set up in SIPCOT industrial estate at Manamadurai in Sivaganga district. He cited media reports about the setting up of the unit, despite concerns raised by the general public over public health due to the treatment unit.

“It is condemnable that the unit is being set up in full swing, despite strong opposition made by a majority of the general public during the public consultation held last year over setting up the bio medical treatment unit,” Mr. Dhinakaran contended.

Protests have been staged by people against the unit, contending that gaseous effluents from the treatment unit would affect people in Manamadurai and nearby areas, Mr. Dhinakaran pointed out.
