The government’s Production-Linked Incentive scheme has seen the government provide ₹21,534 crore worth of incentives in various sectors, thereby attracting investments worth ₹1.76 lakh crore, according to an official release. The scheme has generated production or sales worth ₹16.5 lakh crore as of March 2025.

The release was issued following a review meeting held by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal of the PLI schemes. During the review, the Minister said that India must prioritise the sectors in which it has a competitive edge over other countries.

“Cumulative incentive amount of Rs. 21,534 crore has been disbursed under PLI Schemes for 12 sectors viz. large-scale electronics manufacturing (LSEM), IT hardware, bulk drugs, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, telecom & networking products, food processing, white goods, automobiles & auto components, specialty steel, textiles, and drones & drone components,” the release said.

Some of the particular success stories of the PLI schemes in enhancing exports are in the pharmaceutical, bulk drugs, food processing, and textile sectors, it added.

The pharmaceutical sector saw cumulative sales of ₹2.66 lakh crore, including exports of ₹1.70 lakh crore in the first three years of the scheme. The pharma export sales under the scheme in 2024-25, at ₹0.67 lakh crore, was around 27% of the total pharma exports of the country that year.

In addition, 40% of the total investment of ₹37,306 crore in the sector has been undertaken for research and development (R&D) purposes. The overall Domestic Value Addition in the Sector has been 83.70% as of March 2025.

“The PLI scheme has contributed to India becoming a net exporter of bulk drugs (Rs 2,280 crore) from net importer (Rs -1,930 crore) as was the case in FY 2021-22,” the release said. “It has also resulted in significant reduction in the gap between the domestic manufacturing capacity and demand for critical drugs.”

According to the government, the PLI scheme for food products has attracted investments worth ₹9,032 crore, which has resulted in production of ₹3.8 lakh crore and direct and indirect employment of 3.4 lakh people.
