Aamir Khan jokingly accuses Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan of plotting to end his career with an ‘old, fat’ man’s role in ‘Dangal’: ‘Isko buddhe ka role do aur nikalo industry se’ |

Even after nine years, Dangal still holds the title of the highest-grossing Hindi film. But did you know Aamir Khan almost turned it down? In a recent chat, he revealed rejecting the film at first, even joking with Nitesh Tiwari that Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan might have plotted to end his career by casting him as a 55-year-old father of four daughters!
Aamir’s Transformation from Dhoom 3 to Dangal
In a chat with Just Too Filmy, Aamir Khan revealed that before Dangal, he had worked tirelessly to achieve a sculpted physique for Dhoom 3. Looking younger than his age, he was hesitant to take on a role that demanded significant weight gain, making the decision even tougher for him.Aamir Khan admitted that if he had focused on pleasing the audience, he wouldn’t have done Dangal. He recalled telling director Nitesh Tiwari that while he loved the story, the timing felt off. Fresh off Dhoom 3 with just 9.6 percent body fat, transforming into a 55-year-old overweight father felt like a drastic shift.
Aamir’s Hilarious Theory on Shah Rukh and Salman’s ‘Plot’
Aamir Khan humorously recalled his initial reaction to Dangal, joking that it felt like a setup by Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. He told director Nitesh Tiwari, “Did Shah Rukh send you? I think Salman and Shah Rukh plotted to give me a 60-year-old’s role just to push me out of the industry!”

Aamir further shared that he initially hesitated because he was looking young and fit at the time. He even suggested that Nitesh Tiwari make the film after 10-15 years. While Nitesh agreed, the story lingered in Aamir’s mind, and eventually, he decided to take the plunge, saying, “Let’s do it, we’ll see what happens.”
Playing a Father: Aamir’s Vulnerability on Screen
Aamir Khan later admitted that portraying a father in Dangal made him feel vulnerable, as it would reveal his true age to the audience. At 55, he feared viewers would see this as his real self rather than the youthful image from Dhoom 3. This hesitation stemmed from how closely the role mirrored his reality.
