Ben Affleck ‘not interested’ in superhero return; says playing Batman in Justice League was an ‘excruciating experience’ |

After playing Daredevil and then going on to star as Batman, Ben Affleck now has no plans to return to the superhero genre. The actor, who has played both Marvel and DC superheroes revealed in his latest interview that he will not be seen playing a superhero or vigilante once again.
Recalling his time on the Justice League sets as an “excruciating experience”, he said in a candid interview with GQ, that his lack of interest in the genre has made him want to steer clear of the genre. “I am not interested in going down that particular genre again, not because of that bad experience, but just: I’ve lost interest in what was of interest about it to me,” Affleck told the publication. He further explained that the tumultuous production initially directed by Zack Snyder and then passed on to Joss Whedon, was marked by “misalignment of agendas, understandings, [and] expectations,” which added to the strain.
Affleck also acknowledged his own shortcomings, playing Batman. “I wasn’t bringing anything particularly wonderful to that equation at the time, either. I had my own failings—significant failings—in that process and at that time,” he admitted.The Justice League production, which starred Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and Henry Cavill as Superman, was infamous for its behind-the-scenes turmoil. Affleck confessed that he approached the role with a poor attitude, stating, “I wasn’t bringing a lot of positive energy to the equation. I didn’t cause problems, but I came in, did my job, and went home. But you’ve got to do a little bit better than that.”
Back in a 2022 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Affleck called working on the superhero crossover film as the “worst experience,” stating that changing directors, production delays, and budget issues contributed to the many factors.
After starring as an actor in several projects over the past years, the Oscar-winner expressed his desire to get back to directing and indicated that his future projects would focus more on him behind the lense.
