Premiering its second and final season on Disney+, Andor ends just as grounded, urgent, and deeply political., as it began. Created by Tony Gilroy, the show charts five critical years in the life of Cassian Andor, the rebel spy introduced in Rogue One. As the final episodes lead into the events of that film, actor Diego Luna closes a decade-long chapter, completing a character arc defined by resistance and sacrifice.

Gilroy, who first stepped into the Star Wars universe during reshoots of Rogue One, took the franchise into uncharted territory with Andor. The show’s strength lies in its ocus on ordinary individuals living under authoritarian rule and making impossible choices. From prison breaks and sabotage to heists to secret police operations and ideological betrayals, Andor paints a nuanced portrait of rebellion.

In an interview with Variety, Gilroy says, the series is about what happens “when history comes knocking on your door.” That premise, explored across 24 episodes, has drawn parallels to current global events — from Ukraine to Gaza — while echoing past revolutions and resistance movements.

Diego Luna, reflecting on his final days on set, described the experience as deeply emotional. Wearing Cassian’s costume again and stepping back into the Rogue One cockpit beside his droid K-2SO felt like “a triumph.” He also noted how personal the production had become. Directed and shot by longtime collaborators from Mexico, Luna said he found himself speaking Spanish on a Star Wars set and feeling entirely at home. “In Rogue One, I was catching up. Here, it was the other way around,” he shared.

Today, exactly ten years after being officially cast as Cassian Andor in Rogue One, Diego Luna brings the character’s journey to a close with the season finale of Andor, marking the end of a defining chapter in the Star Wars saga.
