The Television Academy today announced the nominees for the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards, with record-breaking recognition for The Studio and a surprising absence for Andor in major categories.
Apple TV+’s freshman comedy The Studio emerged as a standout, earning 23 nominations — the most ever for a debut comedy. The series secured nods for Outstanding Comedy Series, as well as individual nods for co-creator Seth Rogen for Lead Actor, Writing, and Directing. Rogen’s haul has the potential to equate him with Emmy record-holders like Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Levy if he sweeps his categories.
In contrast, Andor— widely acclaimed for its second and final season — received only one nod for Outstanding Drama Series, along with several technical and supporting nominations. Despite critical acclaim and strong viewing figures, the series saw only Forest Whitaker recognised in the acting lineup, while key performances from Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, and Genevieve O’Reilly were notably absent. Andor also earned nominations for writing, direction, music, cinematography, visual effects, production design, and costumes, but missed out on many top nods.
In the Drama category, Severance and The White Lotus lead the nominations with a strong showing across major acting, directing, and writing categories. Severance secured key nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor (Adam Scott), and multiple supporting nods for Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, and Tramell Tillman, reaffirming its status as a major Emmy contender. The White Lotus follows closely with a robust acting presence, including three nominations in the Supporting Actor category and four in Supporting Actress, cementing its dominance in ensemble recognition.
In the Limited Series category, Adolescence leads the pack with nominations across all major categories, including Outstanding Limited Series, Lead Actor (Stephen Graham), Supporting Actor (Owen Cooper, Ashley Walters), and Supporting Actress (Erin Doherty, Christine Tremarco). Its multiple acting nods and strong presence in writing and directing have positioned it as the frontrunner. The Penguin, Dying for Sex, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story also show strength, but Adolescence’s broad representation suggests it may have the widest support among voters this season.
With tight competition this year, including returning favorites like Severance, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, and Squid Game, the Emmys promise a closely fought contest. New series such as The Pitt, Paradise, Dying for Sex, and Adolescence have also captured attention, adding fresh energy to the mix.
Emmys voting closed on June 23, and today’s nominations were announced by Brenda Song of Running Point and Harvey Guillén of What We Do in the Shadows. The televised ceremony will air September 14 on CBS, hosted by Nate Bargatze.
