Following the success of the 2019 Hindi-language film Kesari, directed by Anurag Singh and starring Akshay Kumar, Dharma Productions’ second instalment in the series, titled Kesari Chapter 2, hit theatres yesterday.

Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and produced by Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films, and Leo Media Collective, the film has actors Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, and Ananya Panday in the lead roles.

The makers of the film have now officially announced the first day collections. Dharma Productions’ X handle shared that the film has made ₹7.84 crore on day one of its theatrical run.

The film is based on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that took place on April 13, 1919, in Amritsar, Punjab. Akshay Kumar essays the role of Sankaran Nair, a lawyer who intends to make the British apologise for the tragedy.

The movie is adapted from the book The Case That Shook The Empire, written by Pushpa Palat and Raghu Palat. The screenplay of the film is written by Tyagi and Amritpal Singh Bindra.
