‘Raid 2’ Day 1 box office collection: Ajay Devgn’s film takes on Suriya’s ‘Retro’ and Nani’s ‘HIT 3,’ opens at ₹18.25 crores-OxBig News Network

Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 faced stiff competition at the box office on the opening day from the Tamil film Retro, starring Suriya, and the Telugu film HIT 3, headlined by Nani. Ajay’s sequel minted Rs. 18.25 crores on Thursday, while Retro earned Rs. 19.25 crores and HIT 3 earned 18 crores.

According to Sacnilk, Raid 2 saw an overall occupancy of 64 per cent in Chennai, while Bangalore came second with 59.50 per cent.

A sequel to the 2018 Hindi movie Raid, the Raj Kumar Gupta-directed film dives into the world of corruption, power, and high-stakes drama. Ajay returns as the Income Tax officer Amay Patnaik, as he takes on his opponent Dadabhai, essayed by Riteish Deshmukh.

The Hindu review of the movie said, “Director Raj Kumar Gupta recycles a sanctimonious officer’s fight against corruption into an advertisement of the direct benefit transfer scheme.”

Raid 2 also stars Vaani Kapoor, Rajat Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Supriya Pathak and Amit Sial. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak and Krishan Kumar, the film is presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series and is a Panorama Studios production.
