Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain passed away on December 15 in USA at the age of 73. Many celebrities paid tribute to him, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sobhita Dhulipala recently had shared screen space with him in her last film ‘Monkey Man’ directed by Dev Patel. Since she recently had a close association with him, she was deeply saddened by the news of his demise. Though, Sobhita’s tribute also seemed to have a cryptic subtext.
The actress shared a picture of Zakir Hussain playing the tabla and she wrote, “#UstaadZakirHussain What a joy to have shared the screen with you in Monkey Man! Now off to another realm to spread more of your magic. Thank you for sharing your gift with us! You’ve been terrific influence in shaping my silences.”
The part about him being an influence on her in shaping her silences seemed like a cryptic subtext to many. Sobhita recently tied the knot to Naga Chaitanya this month, after he got divorced from Samatha Ruth Prabhu in 2021. There’s been a lot of noise around Chay and Sobhita’s wedding apart from all the good wishes pouring in and Sobhita has maintained a dignified silence about it all through.
Meanwhile, a clip of Zakir Hussain playing tabla from ‘Monkey Man’ where Dev Patel’s character is practicing boxing, has gone viral on the internet. Netizens have called this scene an ‘unforgettable tabla x boxing jugalbandi’.
Hussain passed away due to lung related complication called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He is survived by his wife Antonia Minnecola, his daughters Anisa Qureshi, Isabella Qureshi.
