As the world of entertainment is bracing for the biggest evening of the year, the 2025 Academy Awards, fans of Hollywood cinema should probably brace for some shocking revelations.

Entertainment Weekly, which caught hold of four anonymous Academy voters to get an idea of their picks, one of them confessed something on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.

Out of the four anonymous voters, featuring a filmmaker, a publicist, a writer, and a casting director, none of them had seen Dune 2. According to the entertainment portal, the director stated, “The first Dune, I couldn’t get through; I’m not rushing for another three hours of Dune.”

The publicist apparently said, “With Dune: Part Two, I’d seen the David Lynch version of Dune, and I saw (Denis Villeneuve’s) first one, which I was super bored by. I place it on myself; when I walked into the theater, I wasn’t in the right headspace. It wasn’t compelling to me.” Considering how it’s expected from the Academy voters that they watch all the nominated films, this revelation has come in as quite a shocker.

Considered one of the best films of 2024, the film grossed $715 million worldwide against a budget of $190 million and won acclaim from both fans and critics. The film has been nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award this year.

The news of the voters skipping certain films has gained traction and has sparked widespread debate about the fairness of the Academy’s voting process. Fans have taken to social media to share their anguish over the voting process.

In Dune: Part Two, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem reprise their roles from the first film, with Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux joining the cast.
