The Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) social gathering has put up posters in Chennai supporting its chief Kamal Haasan within the row triggered by his remarks on the origin of Kannada language, and claimed “truth needed no apology”.
The posters had been put up within the metropolis forward of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce’s assembly to debate the discharge of the veteran actor’s film ‘Thug Life’, following opposition from some pro-Kannada teams demanding an apology from him earlier than the movie was launched in Karnataka.
Mr. Kamal’s comment that “Kannada was born out of Tamil” made on the audio launch of his movie in Chennai within the final week of May, stoked an issue, triggering protests within the neighbouring state. The South India Artistes’ Association defended him, claiming he aimed to advertise unity.
With ‘Thug Life’ scheduled to hit the cinemas on June 5, 2025, Mr. Haasan, who declined to tender an apology for “uttering the reality”, had moved the Karnataka High Court in search of a path for the movie launch.
The picture of the posters, shared by the MNM functionary, stated the social gathering firmly stood with its chief and emphasised that there was no want for an apology for talking the reality.
