Hrithik Roshan admits being afraid ahead of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’s 25th anniversary re-release: ‘My son pointed out I was playing wrong notes on guitar’

As Hrithik Roshan marks 25 years since his debut as a lead actor in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, the iconic film directed by his father, Rakesh Roshan, is set for a re-release on January 10 – Hrithik’s birthday. Speaking at the trailer launch of Netflix’s upcoming docu-series The Roshans, Hrithik shared his mixed emotions about the film being revisited after so many years.
Addressing the re-release, Hrithik candidly admitted, “I am so afraid the film is releasing again. People will go tomorrow after 25 years and think, arre yaar pachis saal pehle hum kya soch rahe the, aisa kuch nahi hai (what were we thinking twenty-five years ago, it’s nothing as we remember).”
During the event, a still from the film showing Hrithik playing the guitar was displayed, prompting him to share a behind-the-scenes story. He recalled being told the night before shooting the song Pyaar Ki Kashti Mein that he needed to look like he could play the guitar. “And when you give something like this to someone like me, you can expect me to go crazy. Cause I didn’t play the guitar, and now I had to look like I could play one. So I couldn’t sleep that night. The whole night I kept trying to make a physical action with my fingers imagining the sound of the instrument. I went absolutely nuts,” Hrithik said.

Hrithik Roshan: Doctor once told me I won’t be able to dance in my life

Although Hrithik thought he had nailed the performance during filming, years later, his son, who enjoys playing music, pointed out that he was playing the wrong notes in the song.
Released on January 14, 2000, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai was a massive success, turning Hrithik into an overnight star. With music composed by his uncle Rajesh Roshan, songs like Na Tum Jano Na Hum, Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara, and Ek Pal Ka Jeena became instant classics. The film emerged as the second-highest-grossing movie of 2000, following Mohabbatein.

The upcoming Netflix docu-series The Roshans, releasing on January 17, will offer a four-part exploration into the lives and stardom of the Roshan family, spanning the journey of Roshan Lal, Rajesh, Rakesh, and Hrithik Roshan.
