Javed Akhtar once turned down the opportunity to write for Karan Johar’s debut movie, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai‘, simply because he wasn’t fond of its title.

Javed reflected on his decision to decline working on Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, citing his belief that the ’80s were a low point for Hindi cinema, marked by double-meaning and meaningless lyrics.Despite initially writing a song for the film, he ultimately refused to associate with it due to the title, a choice he now regrets.In another conversation with designer Prabal Gurung on YouTube, Karan shared insights about Javed Akhtar’s decision to leave Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He explained that Javed initially had issues with the film’s title and felt he couldn’t write for it. However, after the film’s success, Javed later admitted his mistake. Despite not collaborating on that project, Karan and Javed eventually worked together on Kal Ho Naa Ho in 2003.
