Actress-turned-MP Kangana Ranaut, recently elected from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi on a BJP ticket, has opened up about her rocky start in politics.
Speaking during a podcast on the YouTube channel Atman in Ravi (AiR), Kangana admitted, “I wouldn’t say that I am enjoying it. It’s a very different kind of work, more like social service.”
She revealed how local issues like broken roads and drainage problems overwhelm her compared to her past activism for women’s rights.
“I’ve fought for women’s rights, but that’s different. Somebody’s naali is broken, and I’m like, ‘But I am an MP and these people are coming to me with panchayat-level problems.’
“They don’t care. When they see you, they come to you with problems like broken roads, and I tell them that’s a state government issue, and they say, ‘You have money, you use your own money,’” she said.
When asked if she harbours ambitions to become Prime Minister, Kangana dismissed the idea, saying she lacks the passion and competence for it.
“Social work has never been my background. I’ve lived a selfish life—I want a big house, a big car, diamonds,” she confessed.
Amid criticism for a delayed visit, Kangana toured flood-hit areas in Mandi following devastating cloudbursts that claimed 14 lives. Posting photos from the ground, she assured swift assistance and promised to brief PM Modi on the crisis.
