Now, with the arrival of ‘L2: Empuraan,’ it seems that Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s film, this long-standing doubt, will finally have its resolution.

Even though the actor-director Prithviraj keeps on stressing that ‘L2: Empuraan’ is a ‘small’ film, it’s sure that after watching the output of ‘Lucifer,’ which also had the same ‘small movie’ title, the audiences know that he is cooking something in its second part that they have not witnessed before. Also, surely, Prithviraj is also aware of the fact that ‘Empuraan’ is nowhere near being in the category of a ‘small’ movie when it is backed by big-shot producers, shot in multiple locations, and has other factors that are seen in a big-budget foreign language movie.

Kudos to writer ‘Murali Gopi’ for setting up a basic story canvas in ‘Lucifer,’ which is appealing to not only the Malayali audiences. The issue of drug mafias is relevant everywhere, and when it comes to ‘L2: Empuraan,’ this leaves a lot of opportunities in widening the story potential, connecting every language speaker. This is what Lokesh Kanagaraj has also achieved with the creation of LCU. With the inclusion of dark forces, the Illuminati, and other elements, ‘L2: Empuraan’ surely opens a wider scope in storytelling.
Foreign casts—especially ‘GOT’ actor Jerome Flynn

No one would have expected an internationally famous actor to play a major role in a Malayalam movie, and Prithviraj Sukumaran has indeed made that possible. While the film has several foreign actors, the ‘GOT’ and ‘John Wick’ actor Jerome Flynn is surely the main highlight.

In the character video revealed by the ‘L2: Empuraan’ makers, the Hollywood actor Jerome Flynn, who plays the character Boris in the film, opened up about his experience. He said, “I can’t quite remember how I got roped into this job. But I am so glad I did because it was a completely different experience from what I am used to having over in the UK or the US. And to be part of the Mollywood culture of things. And to get a taste of that was really special. It’s extra special to me, I think, because India was a really important, precious part of my journey.”
He further said that his role in the movie is a pivotal element in Mohanlal’s ‘Abraam Khureshi’s journey.
The teaser response

Although the fans were quite impressed by the teaser for ‘L2: Empuraan,’ it’s quite evident that it just showcases the glimpses of what spectacle is yet to come. ‘L2: Empuraan’ teaser doesn’t follow the usual style of hyping up each scene and creating an impact; instead, the makers simply present the mood for the movie and also set the hype bar in check so that there are no over-expectations. In one way, this is also a brilliant strategy. Rather than putting everything on the table, the teaser does its real purpose—to ‘tease’ the audiences to watch the movie.
‘Empuraan’ delves deeper into Zayed’s past—Prithviraj Sukumaran
In a character reveal video, Prithviraj Sukumaran, who plays Khureshi’s right hand, Zayed Masood, explained the importance of his character in the movie. He said, “In the first installment of the franchise, we witnessed the Khureshi-Ab’raam nexus that infamously controls the global gold and diamond trade. Zayed Masood is the mercenary commando who led their hit group—or rather, their hit force. That was the only side of him that you saw in the film.”
Prithviraj further said that ‘Empuraan’ will introduce a new powerful entity that is even stronger than the powerful force that was introduced in ‘Lucifer.’
