Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran‘s much-anticipated sequel, L2: Empuraan, has demonstrated remarkable consistency at the North American box office during its initial days. The film’s premiere shows amassed an impressive $595,000, contributing significantly to a total of $940,556 by early evening on the second day. Notably, the day-two collections of $337,762 were on par with its day-one earnings, underscoring the film’s steady appeal among audiences and thereby taking the overall collection of the film to US $ 1.27 million. An amount unheard for a Malayalam film in the circuit as it is dominated by Hindi and Telugu films.

The journey to this success began well before the film’s release. L2: Empuraan set a new benchmark for Malayalam cinema in North America by achieving the highest-grossing premiere in the region the day the advance booking for the film opened. Advance ticket sales had already reached $125,000 nine days prior to its release, reflecting the immense anticipation surrounding the film. In India as well the film has been doing an amazing business though it did face a major drop on the second day as it earned just Rs 11.75 crore while day 1 stood at Rs 22 crore.
It would be interesting to see how the film fares from here on as the actual weekend starts from now and with Monday also being a holiday on the occasion of Eid- the collection could see a major spike. But the film might face a strong opposition in Salman Khan’s Sikandar which is releasing on Sunday 30th March.
