The uproar over the Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is not stopping. A PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court demanding a ban on this series. Surjit Singh Yadav’s petition states that in this series directed by Anubhav Sinha, the real identity of the terrorists has been hidden by giving them Hindu names. Earlier, there was a demand to boycott this series on social media. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya also opposed this series.
There has already been a lot of uproar on social media regarding the web series made on the Kandahar hijack. However, the director of the series, Anubhav Sinha, has not given any statement in this matter. He has definitely shared a post on social media, through which the reality of the whole matter is known.
What is the controversy?
The terrorists involved in the Kandahar hijack were from Pakistan. Their names were Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Syed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Mistry Zahoor Ibrahim and Shakir. In the Netflix series, the names of these terrorists are Chief, Doctor, Burger, Bhola and Shankar. People opposing the web series say that giving Hindu names to Pakistani terrorists sends a wrong message and people will not be able to know the truth. On the contrary, they will feel that the plane was hijacked by Indians.
What is the reality?
The casting director of the web series, Mukesh Chhabra, said in an interview that the web series has been made after doing thorough research. The terrorists were calling each other by these names in the plane. The real names of the terrorists are also revealed at the end of the web series. According to the BBC, the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India also confirmed this in its statement. In the year 2000, the Government of India said in a statement that the terrorists were calling each other by the names Chief, Doctor, Burger, Bhola and Shankar in the plane.(source-indiatv)
