Ram Gopal Varma is often known to land himself in trouble due to his tweets. He holds no filter and always expresses what he feels so on social media. In a recent interview, the ‘Company’ maker recalled how complaints were filed against him for few of his tweets which led to the police coming to arrest him. But what happened next was quite funny.
The film-maker said on Komal Nahta’s podcast, ‘Game changers’, “4-5 years ago, I had tweeted a few posts, and I did not think about it, whatever I felt. After a few hours, Mahesh Bhatt, sir, called me and said, ‘Ramu, there is a furore over your tweets, but understand that blasphemy is not against the law,’ and I had no idea what he was talking about because I had already forgotten what I had done.”
He added, “We were trying to aggregate all the cases, but by the time the police got to my office, the court had already reversed the law that very day, under which I was booked. The police had no idea what to do, so they all sat with me, had a drink and then left. Most of what I tweet is out of ignorance, but sometimes I do it just to poke or irritate someone”.
RGV also was always known to have a deep insight about the underworld as he made ‘Satya’ in the 90s. The film-maker had told ETimes in an interview some time ago, that he did not fear making movies on the underworld. He said, “A lot of people warned me that don’t make this. I’m not saying someone is bad. I’m just making a film. So, they were happy. I showed the human side of it. Infact, I was the only one at that time, who did not get a call for extortion because of Satya. They were like, ‘usko chhodo’. I was given a free cut.”
