Bollywood star Salman Khan, who has been in the industry for more than three decades, has frequently collaborated with his contemporaries in multi-starrer films over the years. He has also worked with actors and directors from both the South and the North. However, the actor now feels that the younger generation of Bollywood stars is reluctant to do the same due to insecurity.
During a press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday (March 26), ahead of the release of his much-awaited film ‘Sikandar‘, Salman addressed concerns regarding the dwindling number of successful films in Hindi cinema. The ‘Tiger 3’ actor highlighted a growing issue among young stars, stating that he found them ‘insecure’.
“Actors today have become very insecure. Do you see any of the younger generation stars doing two-hero films? I have offered a film both individually and in combination to younger actors, but they all refused to work with each other. They presented different excuses, but the fact is they did not want to collaborate,” he stated.
Reflecting on his own career, Salman spoke about how he had shared screen space with Bollywood legends such as Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Akshay Kumar, Rahul Roy, Anil Kapoor, and Sanjay Kapoor. He reminisced about an era when actors willingly worked together on multiple films and even made guest appearances in each other’s projects.
Collaboration Over Competition
Salman underscored how this camaraderie benefited not only the actors but also the industry as a whole. “It was about our fans coming together and bringing in that much box-office collection. We also became close friends by shooting for 100–150 days together,” he added.
Beyond the issue of actors refusing to collaborate, the actor also raised concerns about Bollywood’s evolving creative landscape. He cited his father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, to emphasise that many films today are being made for reasons unrelated to storytelling—such as actors’ availability, an actress’s personal milestones, or financial backing.
Directed by AR Murugadoss, ‘Sikandar ‘ features Salman alongside Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles. The film is slated to hit the big screens on Sunday, March 30, coinciding with Eid celebrations.
