Salman Khan talks about the biggest roadblock in parents Salim Khan and Salma Khan’s marriage: ‘It was never about difference in Hindu and Muslim culture…’ |

Salman Khan, born to Salim Khan and Salma Khan (originally Sushila Charak) on December 27, 1965, recently shared the story behind his parents’ marriage. The actor revealed the details during a press meet ahead of his upcoming release, Sikandar, which is set to hit theaters on Sunday, March 30, coinciding with Eid-ul-Fitr.
Primary Issue: Father’s Profession, Not Religion
Salman Khan revealed that the primary issue in his parents’ marriage was not the difference in religion, but rather his father, legendary screenwriter Salim Khan’s profession. The Sultan actor shared that the objections from his maternal side were never about the cultural differences between the Hindu and Muslim backgrounds of both families. The Real Concern: Film Industry Profession
While speaking to the media in Mumbai, Salman Khan explained that the main issue with his parents’ marriage wasn’t the difference in Hindu and Muslim cultures or practices. The real concern at the time was his father’s profession in the film industry. Salim Khan, alongside his partner Javed Akhtar, had written numerous blockbusters in the 1970s, which became a point of contention for his maternal side.
Sikandar: Directed by AR Murugadoss
Speaking about Sikandar, Salman Khan’s upcoming action thriller is directed by the renowned Tamil filmmaker AR Murugadoss. Known for his critically and commercially successful Tamil films such as Spyder (2017) with Mahesh Babu, Thuppakki (2012) with Thalapathy Vijay, and Darbar (2020) with Rajinikanth, Murugadoss made his Bollywood debut with Ghajini. The Aamir Khan and Asin-starrer blockbuster not only broke several records but also introduced the Rs 100-crore club in 2008. Following that, Murugadoss directed Holiday (2014) with Akshay Kumar and Akira (2016) with Sonakshi Sinha. With Sikandar, the director marks his return to the Hindi film industry after a nine-year gap.

In addition to Salman Khan, Sikandar features a strong cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, Sharman Joshi, and Prateik Smita Patil. The film is set to face tough competition at the box office from L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, which releases on Thursday, March 27.
