Shreyas Talpade says people miss comedy films: ‘What has happened today is OTT’ | Hindi Movie News

Shreyas Talpade is known for his roles in comedy dramas such as ‘Golmaal’ (2006), ‘Welcome to Sajjanpur’, and ‘Housefull 2’. Many film lovers and critics have shared their view that contemporary comedy films lack the true essence of humour as seen in the past. Recently, Talpade also expressed his thoughts on this sentiment.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Shreyas revealed that he has always enjoyed working in comedy films and that his movies used to feature moments that genuinely made people laugh. After taking on serious roles for a while, he transitioned to comedy. “Now, I am known for it. I have no complaints or regrets. We need to make more such films. What has happened today is OTT,” he remarked.

Shreyas reflected on the evolving trends in content consumption, particularly on OTT platforms. He highlighted the predominance of dark and serious narratives in this medium while pointing out the lack of light-hearted comedies. Emphasising the audience’s demand for humour, Talpade reminisced about classic comedies like ‘Bhagam Bhag‘ (2006) and ‘Golmaal’, which he genuinely believes are funny films. “Films like ‘Bhagam Bhag’ (2006) and ‘Golmaal’ were genuinely funny films. Even now, there are some, but they are few and far between,” the actor added.
He recently watched ‘Good Newz’ and Kunal Kemmu’s ‘Madgaon Express’, which he thoroughly enjoyed, further emphasising that audiences are yearning for such comedy films.

Shreyas is currently working on ‘Housefull 5‘ and ‘Welcome to the Jungle’. “Rohit Shetty has announced another ‘Golmaal’. We do miss those comedies we’ve grown to love,” he stated.
When asked about his involvement in the new ‘Golmaal’ film and any discussions with director Rohit Shetty, Shreyas shared that Shetty typically contacts actors only after finalising the script. He believes the script is still in progress but expressed his excitement and anticipation for the call to join the project, having been part of three previous instalments.
