SP Balasubrahmanyam Road: Chennai street officially renamed in honor of the legendary singer | Tamil Movie News

Paying tribute to the legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, Chennai’s Kamdar Nagar Main Road in Nungambakkam has officially been renamed SP Balasubrahmanyam Road. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin unveiled the new title board on this day (February 11).

The renaming follows Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s announcement on SPB’s fourth death anniversary, acknowledging the singer’s everlasting legacy. The event saw the presence of Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments PK Sekar Babu, Chennai Corporation officials, and members of SP Balasubrahmanyam’s family, including his son, SP Charan.

Expressing his gratitude on social media, SP Charan thanked the Tamil Nadu government and CM Stalin for recognizing his father’s contributions. “As a family member of SPB and representing the fans of Paadum Nila, I am grateful to the government of Tamil Nadu for this honor. Humbled. #SPBliveson,” he shared.

According to ANI, Tamil Nadu CM said, “As per late. SP Balasubrahmanyam’s family and fans requested to rename his residence road as SP Balasubrahmanyam Road so our Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has accepted their request and we have renamed this road as per their request as SP Balasubramanyam Road in Chennai. If family and fans request for the late S P Balasubrahmanyam Memorial surely Tamil Nadu Chief Minister will consider and do needful for it.”

Born on June 4, 1946, in Andhra Pradesh, SPB made his singing debut in the 1960s with the Telugu film Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna and gained widespread recognition with the Tamil film Ganeshana Maduve.
