Many superhit movies from the past are being re-released in theatres. Some of these include Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and Kal Ho Naa Ho. We talk to celebs to find out which movies would they like to watch in theatres again. Here’s what they have to say…
Brilliant idea: Hansa Singh
The re-releases of certain blockbusters from yesteryear is a brilliant idea, as Gen Z can experience these films in theatres the way we did. After all, the true essence of watching a movie is on the big screen. I would love to watch Kal Ho Naa Ho and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
Lure of cinema: Kavitta Verma
It’s nice to see films being re-released. Among the mentioned ones, I would probably choose Kal Ho Naa Ho. I feel the response to re-releases might be mixed. For me, good content and new, innovative scripts are what draw me to cinemas. I recently loved watching Laapataa Ladies. Movies like Pushpa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 are also pulling me to theatres. People are experimenting and it’s a great time for actors like me.
DDLJ once more: Ashita Dhawan
It’s amazing that so many old films are getting re-released in theatres. I would love to watch DDLJ again. I’ve already watched it 47 times in theatres, and I love it so much that I’d watch it again with my kids. However, we can’t expect to encourage audiences to go to theatres by only re-releasing old films, as watching films in theatres can be an expensive affair. If a film isn’t good, it feels like a waste. I believe new films with good content must be launched in addition to re-releases.
Nostalgic journey: Aditya Deshmukh
Kaho Na Pyaar Hai is my favourite film. I skipped tuition to watch it, and even today, Hrithik Roshan is my favourite actor. The craze when the movie was released was unmatched—I had posters and book covers. I was fascinated by Hrithik’s dance moves. Ek Pal Ka Jeena was a trendsetter and remains my favourite song. I recently watched Kal Ho Naa Ho in theatres because I had watched it at home when I was in 7th grade, and I wanted to experience it on the big screen. Hrithik’s journey in the industry is mesmerising. On Hritik’s birthday, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai is being re-released, which is incredible.
Win-win situation: Srikant Dwivedi
Re-releasing movies in theatres is an amazing move and can work wonders. We have so many memories associated with these films. Whenever we watch them, it feels like we’re time-traveling to that era and reliving those moments once more. I believe this initiative will encourage people to visit theatres. It brings back the good old days, and it will benefit theatres significantly.
Reliving moments: Delnaaz Irani
Re-releasing these blockbusters is a superb idea. I love all the films, especially Kal Ho Naa Ho, as it’s my film! I would love to watch it in theatres again because it brings back so many memories. Re-releases are a great way to encourage people to visit theatres. For me, the motivation to watch a movie now is that it must be good.
