Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are one of Bollywood’s most famous couples. They married in 1991 with three ceremonies to honor each other’s cultures. First, they registered their marriage, then had a Hindu ceremony, and finally a nikah ceremony, all on the same day. Six years later, they had their first son, Aryan, followed by their daughter Suhana in 2000 and son AbRam in 2013.
SRK and Gauri have been happily married for over 30 years, but there was a time when Gauri’s parents opposed their marriage due to religious differences. In 2005, during her appearance on Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee With Karan, Gauri shared her experience. She was on the show with Sussanne Khan, Hrithik Roshan‘s ex-wife, and Karan Johar asked her about how religion influenced their relationship.

Gauri shared that after Shah Rukh’s parents passed away, she took responsibility for the religious activities at home, organizing prayers for festivals like Diwali and Holi. She mentioned that their children would likely be more influenced by her religion, but Aryan, their firstborn, seemed to identify more with Shah Rukh’s faith. Gauri recalled how Aryan would say, “I am a Muslim,” which often confused her mother, who was still coming to terms with it.

Gauri emphasised that she deeply respects Shah Rukh’s religion, but she made it clear that this doesn’t mean she would convert to Islam. She believes everyone is an individual and should follow their own religion. She stressed the importance of mutual respect, explaining that Shah Rukh would never disrespect her faith either.
When Karan Johar asked Gauri if she ever felt insecure due to the constant female attention Shah Rukh receives, she initially hesitated, mentioning she doesn’t usually answer such questions. However, she responded with humor, saying that if they’re not meant to be together and Shah Rukh finds someone else, she hopes God will send her someone handsome too.
